Move your Fitbit history into TrainRec

Fitbit lets you export a selection of your data, including food and weight, from the web, or download your whole archive. Hand the files to your assistant, which brings your meals and weigh-ins into TrainRec.

How it gets in

Best results: your assistant. A connected assistant reads any export whole, fixes dates and units as it goes, and can bring in food and measurements, not just workouts. Coach, the chat built into TrainRec, is best for telling it what you did and for small pasted pieces. The other routes are there when you'd rather not involve either.

  • Through your assistantConnect or CoachBest results

Export the file from Fitbit, attach it in your connected assistant's chat (Claude today) and say "Import this into TrainRec". It reads the whole file, sorts out odd dates, units and exercise names, and moves everything in with TrainRec's import tools, as one batch you can undo in one tap. With Coach, the chat built into TrainRec, describe what you did ("log my last two weeks: bench 3x5 at 185 on Monday...") or paste a small piece of the export, up to about a couple of weeks at a time. If something looks off afterward, just say so and it fixes it.

  • On its own, through Apple HealthEvery plan, on iPhone

The Google Health app (formerly Fitbit) writes workouts, weight, body fat, resting heart rate and sleep to Apple Health. Turn it on in the Google Health app under Connections, then Apps and services, then Apple Health. Turn on Apple Health sync in TrainRec (Profile, then Sync with Apple Health) and allow the kinds of data you want. Anything Fitbit has written to Apple Health shows up in TrainRec by itself: workouts as sessions with time, distance, calories and heart rate, plus weigh-ins, body fat, blood pressure, resting heart rate, HRV and sleep. Set-by-set lifting detail and food don't travel through Health, so use your assistant for those.

Export from Fitbit

Your choice of data and dates, or a full archive of your account.

We couldn't find an official Fitbit help page for this export, so these steps come from the app itself and may have moved.

  1. Open Data Export. Sign in at fitbit.com, open settings, then Data Export. If your account has moved to Google, use Google Takeout and select Google Health instead.
  2. Export what you need. Choose Export a selection of your data, pick foods and body, a time period and a file format, then Download. Or request your full account archive by email.
  3. Give it to your assistant. Attach the files in your assistant's chat and say "Import this into TrainRec".
  4. Check it in TrainRec. Your history shows up on the calendar and in your records. Something look off? Ask your assistant to fix it. You can also undo the whole batch from Changes.

Good to know

  • A full archive can take a few days to arrive.
  • The Fitbit app is now called Google Health.
