Can my AI assistant send workouts to my Garmin watch?

Not on its own. An AI assistant can write a good plan, but it can't put it on your watch or see what you did. Connect it to TrainRec and install the TrainRec app on your Garmin: the plan your assistant writes shows up on your wrist, one step at a time, and the finished workout comes back to your log so your assistant can review it and adjust the next one.

  1. Connect your assistant. Add TrainRec in your assistant's settings and sign in. See trainrec.app/connect for the steps.
  2. Install TrainRec on your watch. Find TrainRec in the Connect IQ store and install it. Open it on your watch and confirm on your phone.
  3. Ask for a plan. Say what you want, like "Three runs this week, one with hills, and a yoga session." It lands on your watch.
  4. Train, then talk it over. Follow the workout on your wrist. Afterward, ask your assistant how it went. It plans what's next.

Why a chat alone can’t do it

An assistant’s plan lives in the chat. Copying it into a watch workout by hand takes longer than the workout, and the assistant never learns what you actually did. A shared log fixes both: your assistant writes the plan to it and your watch reads it. Then the result goes back where your assistant can see it.

What to ask for

  • “Plan four weeks of running toward a 10K, three days a week.”
  • “Add a 30-minute strength day on Wednesday, dumbbells only.”
  • “My knee is sore. Swap tomorrow’s run for a ride.”
  • “How did this week go?”

Also asked

Which AI assistants work with it?

Claude, ChatGPT and Grok, plus any other AI assistant that supports custom MCP connectors.

Can my assistant read my Garmin history?

It reads your TrainRec log: every workout you do with the TrainRec watch app, set by set, plus what you sync from Apple Health or Health Connect. It never sees your GPS routes.

Do I still need Garmin Connect?

Yes. Keep the Garmin Connect app on your phone, since it keeps your watch connected. Your workouts still save there as Garmin activities.
