How do I use TrainRec on my Garmin watch?

Install TrainRec on your Garmin watch from the Connect IQ store, open it, and confirm on your phone. Today's workout from your AI assistant shows up on your wrist one step at a time, from a run with its distance target to each strength set with its reps and weight. Each set lands in your TrainRec log as you go, and the workout saves to Garmin Connect too. Afterward, your assistant can review it and adjust what comes next.

  1. Install the app. In the Connect IQ app on your phone, search for TrainRec and install it on your watch.
  2. Open it and confirm on your phone. Open TrainRec on your watch, then tap the notice on your phone and confirm. There's nothing to type.
  3. Plan with your assistant. Ask your assistant for a plan, like "Two runs and a strength day this week." It shows up on your watch.
  4. Train from your wrist. Start today's workout. Each step shows its target, a timer for timed and distance work, or the set with its reps and weight, then a rest timer.
  5. Review it. Each set is in your TrainRec log as you finish it. Ask your assistant how it went, and it adjusts the plan.

What you see on your wrist

Each workout runs one step at a time. A run, walk or ride keeps its distance or time target in view with a timer. Yoga, Pilates and HIIT get a timer. A strength day shows the exercise, the set, and its reps and weight, with a line that says how the weight is counted, like plates per side or per dumbbell. Change the numbers with the buttons if you did more or less. Between sets, a rest timer shows what’s next, like “set 2 of 3”. Your heart rate is on screen the whole time.

After your workout

Your sets are already in your TrainRec log, and your personal records update, from your fastest and farthest to your heaviest. The workout is saved in Garmin Connect too. Your assistant can read the whole session before it plans the next one. Your routes stay with Garmin, and your assistant never sees where you went.

Plan any kind of training

Your assistant can mix runs, rides, classes and strength days in one week. Ask in plain words, like “Get me ready for a 10K in eight weeks, with one strength day,” and each workout is ready on your watch. When today’s done, Up next shows the next workout in your routine.

Which Garmin watches does TrainRec work on?

fēnix 7 and 8 series, fēnix E, epix 2 and epix Pro, Forerunner 165, 170, 255, 265, 570, 955, 965 and 970, Venu 2, 3 and 4 series, Venu X1, vívoactive 5 and 6, and Instinct 3 AMOLED and Instinct Crossover AMOLED.

Do I need my phone with me?

Your phone needs the Garmin Connect app and the TrainRec app. Sets you do without a connection stay on your watch and sync when it reconnects. Today's plan needs a connection the first time it loads each day.

Does the workout also show up in Garmin Connect?

Yes. It's saved as a Garmin activity of the right type, like strength, run or yoga, with heart rate and calories, and GPS for outdoor runs, walks and rides. If Garmin Connect also shares it with Apple Health or Health Connect, TrainRec won't count it twice.

Can I start a workout without a plan?

Yes. Start a strength session, run, walk, ride, yoga, Pilates, HIIT or other workout right from your watch.

Does it count reps for me?

Not yet. Use the watch buttons to set the reps and weight for the set in front of you.
