How do I track strength training on a Garmin watch?
Start the Strength activity on your watch. It counts reps as you go, and after each set you can fix the rep count and add the weight you used. You can also build a strength workout in Garmin Connect and send it to your watch. The watch counts one exercise per set and may miss leg exercises, so check your sets afterward and edit them in Garmin Connect.
- Start the Strength activity. From the watch face, open your activities and choose Strength. Pick a saved workout, or start a free session.
- Do one exercise per set. The watch counts reps for one movement at a time, so end the set before you switch exercises.
- Fix the set when you finish it. After each set, the watch shows your rep count. Correct it if it's off, and add the weight you used.
- Rest, then start the next set. A rest timer runs between sets. Start the next set when you're ready.
- Check it afterward. In Garmin Connect, open the activity and edit any sets the watch got wrong, such as a missed leg exercise.
Make your Garmin strength log useful
Rep counting saves taps, but the weight is what shows progress. Add it after every set, even when the rep count is right. Then, before your next session, look at what you lifted last time and pick one thing to beat, like one more rep or a little more weight.
When the watch gets it wrong
Slow reps, short ranges of motion and anything where your wrist stays still, like leg presses or squats with the bar on your back, are the usual misses. Fix the count on the watch right after the set, while you still remember it.
Also asked
Why didn't my watch count my squats?
The watch counts a rep when the arm wearing it returns to the starting position. In leg exercises your wrist barely moves, so reps can be missed. Enter them by hand after the set.
Does a Garmin watch count reps automatically?
Yes, by default. The count appears once you've done a few reps, and you can turn rep counting off in the activity settings.
Can I follow a strength plan on my Garmin?
Yes. Build a strength workout in Garmin Connect and send it to your watch, then choose it when you start the Strength activity.
Can my AI assistant plan my Garmin strength workouts?
Not directly in Garmin Connect. With the TrainRec app on your watch, the plan your assistant writes shows up on your wrist, set by set, and each set comes back to your log for it to review.
